The Pathfinder SUV has been a part of Nissan’s vehicle lineup for more than three decades—it debuted in the auto industry all the way back in 1987. The 2022 model year will mark the start of the iconic three-row Pathfinder SUV’s fifth generation on the mainstream auto market. Let’s talk about the all-new Pathfinder redesign.

The Nissan Pathfinder has undergone a complete redesign for the 2022 model year and the beginning of its fifth generation. It has always been a high-performing mid-size SUV, but now the Pathfinder is more capable, more stylish, and more upscale than ever before. Keep reading to learn more about the all-new, redesigned Pathfinder that will hit the mainstream auto market for the 2022 model year.

About the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder

It’s More Capable Than Ever! The 2022 Nissan Pathfinder has always been a powerful and sturdy SUV that is designed for rugged outdoor adventures and off-roading over rough terrains. For the 2022 model year, the eight-seat Pathfinder is stronger, more powerful, more capable, and more athletic than ever.

For the 2022 model year, the fifth-generation Nissan Pathfinder comes equipped with the same engine as the fourth-generation Pathfinder models—a 3.5-L V6 engine that delivers 284 horsepower on the road. Instead of pairing with a continuously variable automatic transmission as it did in previous model years, however, the Pathfinder’s engine now pairs with a smooth and quiet nine-speed automatic transmission. Dual-pinion electric power steering and wider tires are also new features for the Pathfinder for the 2022 model year that help improve the responsiveness and handling of this athletic SUV.

The 2022 Pathfinder comes standard with front-wheel drive, but all trim levels are also available with all-wheel drive and an Intelligent 4×4 system that includes features like hill descent control and is overall designed to make driving other rough terrains smoother, safer, and easier for Pathfinder drivers. This three-row SUV also comes with seven different drive modes—including Standard, Sport, Eco, Mud, Rut, Snow, and Tow—that are designed to optimize the Pathfinder driving experience over a variety of different terrains. These features help make the Pathfinder more rugged, athletic, and ready for any adventure on or off the road.

In terms of towing, the 2022 Pathfinder is the most capable Pathfinder yet. It can tow up to 6,000 pounds—which is an incredible capability within the mid-size SUV segment—and is equipped with Trailer Sway Control that helps keep drivers and passengers safe on the road by automatically slowing down the Pathfinder if its trailer begins to sway during towing.

Contemporary Design with Vintage Elements

There is nothing outdated about the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder. It has a contemporary design, but it also features some charming vintage elements that pay homage to its predecessors in the Pathfinder lineup—including flared-out fenders, angular windows, diagonal C-pillars, and more. Contemporary exterior features include sleek hidden rear door handles, two LED headlights, a floating roofline, etc.

The interior of the 2022 Pathfinder is definitely modern with a contemporary truck-like design that replaces the outdated interior design of Pathfinder models of past generations. It features an 8.0- or 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment display, an available 10.8-inch head-up display, and a variety of other high-tech amenities—including a built-in navigation system, a wireless smartphone charging pad, a built-in WiFi hotspot, and a 13-speaker premium Bose audio system.

Family-Friendly and Luxurious

There is no doubt about the fact that the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder is a practical, family-friendly vehicle. It seats up to eight passengers comfortably at one time and offers plenty of space for both cargo and passengers.

Its storage space includes a floating space underneath the center console, sixteen drink holders, enlarged door pockets, an under-floor cargo compartment, and enough room in the trunk for six carry-on suitcases even with all three rows of seats upright. It also comes with special family-friendly features such as a one-touch button that allows access to its third-row seats and makes installing car seats much easier and more convenient.

Although it is spacious, practical, and convenient for families, the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder is far from boring or drab. In fact, it has a very upscale look and feels. Available luxurious amenities for the 2022 Pathfinder include a panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, ultra-comfortable captain’s chairs as second-row seats, semi-aniline leather upholstery, and more.
